In a recent study, we explored whether children with suspected childhood apraxia of speech (sCAS) would have a greater chance of being identified as having possible developmental coordination disorder (pDCD) compared to children with DCD in the general population. For this study, parents of children with CAS completed a DCD screening questionnaire. the results of this survey demonstrated that the percentage of children with co-occurring sCAS and pDCD was significantly greater than the percentage of children with DCD in the general population. Physical activity level and speech motor scores provided a statistical trend for predicting pDCD scores. The study also demonstrated a need for a population-based prevalence study. Outcomes of the study will inform multidisciplinary practice for early identification and support of these children.
